Levon Helms Midnight Ramble & more.

Man what a year its been.
I just returned from a Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. His band plays shows there they are open to the public. It was great, pretty close to the set list he played in Utica back in sept. but there was only 150 people there & the place is amazing. I’lll post a link below for those who would like to go. I had the honor of introducing the band when they were in Utica at the Stanley P.A.C., It was great the band members I spoke with sat night actually remembered me!! I have to give special thanks for the passes to Barb O’Brien Levons mgr.! Thanks Barb.
The opening acts were Little Sammy Davis who was celebrating either b-day 99 or 81 we heard both? Im not sure, but He was cool.
Next up was Emory Joseph an americana-roots rock guy from N.Y.city area. WOW what a set of pipes on this guy. Check him out on myspace. Emory has an album out “Fennario” the music of Garcia/Hunter. His versions of Jerry’s songs are great & done in his own way, not just cheezy covers but well arranged sincere re-workings. That is just the tip of the iceberg with Emory though. His original music is top notch roots rock. I cant believe he’s not more well known. Please do yourself a favor & look Emory Joseph up & check out his music.
I also got to meet the bass player in his band for the night Tom T-bone Wolk, the guy with the hat from the S.N.L. band for many years, but hes done so much there’s too much to list here. From Hall & Oates to The Live-aid Band & much more. He was a very nice guy. Chek his bio out & listen to his playing. The levon Helm Ramble was a ball It made b-day # 42 the best one so far!!
In other music news SLUG played to a pretty packed house at the Tombstone Saloon on fri. 11/28 for my b-day party. thanks to all who showed up it was a great night both musically & My girl Shannon baked a killer pine-apple cake too! Look for more SLUG dates soon including dec. 19th at Scooters in Forestport NY. Talk to you soon Thanks Genesee Joe

Ramada inn new hartford @ 1pm. Get down with seven of the areas best blues bands including Jimmy Wolf, Al Nathan, Blue prints & sour mash. There will be raffles & door prizes including an electric guitar from big apple music.The event will be hosted by 96.9 WOUR’s Genesee Joe. All money raised goes to The American cancer society Relay for Life TeamHarmony. Come out for great music for a great cause

THis sat we will have a special guest on the Joe Show! Mr. Henry Paul of the outlaws will stop in on the way to his Turning Stone gig later that night!! Besides Henry we’ll have Mike from Suns of The Empire in too! The “Suns” hail from Rome & used to be the Buddahbellies! The Dead kick off their tour next month and the best seats in the house at every show are still available. I recently have started playing a somewhat silly little game. I go to a site such as MSN/maps and using the “birdseye view” function search the city maps via extremely clear arial photos & find my car parked at my usual haunts. I found the ol’ chevy astro @ the devereux & parked in my driveway. You see the photos are not all shot at once so you can be at different locales. It’s silly but fun. As I can tell the photos are from last spring. I say this because The St. Elizabeth hosp. parking lot isnt built yet, but the beuatiful, century’s old, trees have been removed from the formerly grand front lawn. That happened last spring or so. Have fun and find out where you were:)!

MELLENCAMP ESSAY ONLINE

The Huffington Post has run a 23-hundred word essay by John Mellencamp. The piece is titled On My Mind: The State of the Music Business and in it, the singer describes how he feels if the music industry hadn’t been so focused on money then there would be many more creative artists right now. CHICKENFOOT PLAY PRIVATE SHOW AT BEST BUY

Chickenfoot, the supergroup made up of former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, recently put on a private concert for employees of a California Best Buy. You can see footage of the gig on YouTube now and later this year, you might be able to check out the group live. They are in the process of booking shows starting in May.
